Boom time

It was a great year for Bollywood as directors were able to give audiences something fresh and the multiplex boom in the cities saw educated audiences return to theatres. The multiplex boom also helped offbeat movies such as Dor" and "Khosla Ka Ghosla" find a market. The growing overseas market has added to the Bollywood craze _ "Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna" was a super hit there while in India it did average business. Out of 120-odd films released, nearly 35 were pro.table due to various revenue streams _ theatrical collections, television rights, DVD rights, overseas business and franchising films through video games, music, ring tones and mobile movie clips. The .ve blockbusters of the year were "Dhoom-2", "Rang De Basanti", "Lage Raho Munnabhai", "Krrish" and "Fanaa".
