Superstars dominate

Nothing much seemed to have changed in the Malayalam film industry, as superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal continued to dominate the scenario. Together, they did 13 out of 60 releases! However, the biggest hit of the year was the Lal Jose-directed "Classmates", featuring young actors Pritviraj, Jayasurya, Narain, Indrajeet and Kavya Madhavan. The other super hits were Mohanlal's "Rasathantram" and "Keerthichakra" and Mammootty's "Thuruppu Gulan". The year did not see the rise of any new star and up and coming actors found it dif.cult to even manage an opening.
