Cake show

The cake season is back here

With Christmas just over and New Year around the corner, the season of cakes is back with the annual cake exhibition at Moti Mahal. Cakes shaped like Santa Claus, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and butterflies are the star attractions at this year's sale.

Watermelon and basket-shaped cakes also adorn the counter of Moti Sweets, the bakery and confectioneries unit of the hotel, where the event will be on till December 31.

The exhibition is not a large-scale event, but has carved a niche for itself over the last few years. "Special cakes such as Day and Night and Naughty prepared by our chef are the highlight of the sale," says Jayaprasad Shetty, kitchen in charge of the hotel. The regular butterscotch, vanilla, chocolate, almond and black forest varieties are available too.

Explaining the process of making designer cakes, Vishwanath, the chef, says a design is first sketched on to cake sponge which is then scooped out and filled with cream and butter icing. "The process takes about one-and-a-half hours."

The cake exhibition is just one of the many holiday delights at the hotel. A coffee shop and a pub were recently inaugurated.
