CRUNCHY TREAT Chocolate Walnut cookies

Cookies and homemade biscuits make great servings at a New Year get-together. Try these cookies that combine the goodness of nuts and spices.

Chocolate Walnut cookies

Ingredients

Flour - 1 cup
Chocolate powder - quarter cup
Powdered sugar - quarter cup
Chopped walnuts - half cup
Condensed milk - quarter cup
Butter - quarter cup
Baking powder - half tsp

Method

Sieve together flour, chocolate powder and baking powder. Rub butter into the mixture. Add sugar and walnuts. Bind the flour mixture with condensed milk. Form small balls and place on a greased tray. Bake in a moderate oven (350 degree C) for 15-20 minutes until firm, cool.

Cinnamon nut squares

Ingredients

Butter - 1 cup

Brown sugar - half cup
Powdered sugar - half cup
Sifted flour (maida) - 2 cups
Chopped cashew nuts - three-fourths cup
Egg yolk - 1
Egg white- 1
Vanilla essence - half tsp
Cinnamon powder- one-and-a-half tsp

Method

Beat butter, brown sugar, powdered sugar, egg yolk and vanilla essence. Add cinnamon powder and sifted flour and form into a ball. Pat the dough into an ungreased baking tray. Brush with beaten egg white. Press in chopped cashew nuts. Bake at 180degree C for 18 minutes. Cool for five minutes. Cut into squares while warm.
