New Year beckons

RARING TO GO Party animals cannot wait to hit the dance floor

As the clock ticks the final countdown to 2007, it is once again time to wear the party hats and toast to the fiesta of New Year. Filled with different hues, the city has everything to offer -- from New Year cards to the lovely gifts for loved ones. The spirit of New Year rings through the air.

All it takes to have a great New Year's eve is close friends, the right attitude and of course, a place to party. A constant flow of snacks, mock tails and cocktails in the evening, culminating in an elaborate gourmet spread in the night is what awaits people at many venues. This is the best occasion for fun-lovers who are eager to party the night away while meeting interesting new people. Invites galore for a night of glitz and glamour in the company of the hip and happening being flown in from different places to entertain the local crowds.

Eventful evenings

The grand ballroom of Hotel Fortune Murali Park of Welcome Group will come to life from 7.30 p.m on Sunday. Live performance by Rahul Pandey, the Indian Idol east zone winner, Ipshita, an up and coming artist from Kolkata and Kolkata-based DJ Sanjiv will entertain the audience with their foot-tapping numbers from Hindi, English and Telugu films. Footloose, a dance troupe of six animated boys and girls will set the dance floor on fire. Abhijeet, the Radio Mirchi jockey and Udaya Bhaskar, a Gemini TV anchor will be other entertainers. The hotel will also dole out surprise gifts and vouchers for a two-nights-and-three-days stay in star hotels across the country to winners of the lucky dip. Aptly named Cheverlet Mardi Gras (a carnival celebrated across Brazil which comes with a lot of music, good food, colour and of course the samba dance) - 2006, the event is sure to rock the evening into an even more eventful night. Tickets for a couple costs Rs. 2,000, which includes the entertainment, a welcome drink and unlimited veg and non-veg snacks and food.

At Vijayawada Club, teen sensation and crooning glory Karunya and the vivacious Telugu television anchor Udaya Bhanu will capture the dais to liven up the surroundings.

A maha tambola and a cracker show will be other highlights. Couples and singles will be invited to take over the dance floors and boogie their way into the New Year, while attractive prizes like a trip to Malaysia for a couple await the visitors besides other surprise gifts. The show will begin at 8 p.m.

The bedecked lobby of Quality Inn Hotel D.V Manor will welcome the guests on the New Year eve.

In addition to the The Highway Experience- the ongoing dhaba foodfestival, supper carnival at Springs and face-painting for children will be other attractions.

We have this practice of friends and relatives gathering at my place and celebrating the new year by cutting a cake. This year it might be slightly different since it clashes with our festival.
