Prakash Amritraj unveils a new tennis racquet

LIKE FATHER LIKE SON Prakash Amritraj, son of tennis legend Vijay Amritraj, in Delhi for the launch of a new tennis racquet

It is not hard for ace Davis cup player Prakash Amritaraj, son of tennis legend Vijay Amritraj, to be recognised. Here in the Capital to launch the latest O3 Speedsport Prince racquet at Planet Sports, Ansal Plaza, it seems he has already learnt the ways of a star.

Posing patiently for photographers and signing autographs for his fans, he says that it's hard toexpresshis father's role in shaping his career.

"He is the one single influence on and off the court. What I'm today is because of my father," he adds.

With a broad smile on seeing the new racquet he spontaneously responds, "It's lovely, it looks good." He is like a child who instantly gets energised at seeing his favourite toy. And it appeared that more than the genes he has also got the right energy and attitude to prove his worth as a great tennis player.

But are Indian players doing enough to counter their strong Americans or Russian contenders?

No difference

Pat comes his reply, "There's nothing like Indian or American players. It's unfair to divide players that way. At the end it just boils down to the individual and how willing a person is to work for the game."

However, he does not deny the role of early grooming,

"One should start out early. One should really work hard and be very dedicated at an early age. Because tennis has a very short shelf life," he points out. He also adds, "It is not just about winning the Grand Slams but playing the best tennis at whatever level you are playing."

And talking about the new racquet, he says he is going to use it in his next tour, "because it is lighter, faster and more competitive."
