For the first time in history, Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) exceeded $3 billion in worldwide ticket sales for the year 2006. In India, SPE crossed Rs. 116 crores in gross box-office sales for the third consecutive year. It distributed the year's biggest Hollywood hits in India Casino Royale, Pirates of the Caribbean-2 and The Da Vinci Code. In fact, the Bond movie has become the second highest grosser ever after Titanic in the country.
Says Uday Singh, Managing Director of SPE, India Operations: "In 2007, SPE has three potential blockbusters, including Spiderman-3 and Pirates of the Caribbean-3. It will also be the first Hollywood studio to produce a Hindi film Bhansali's Saawariya.
