Young talent comes to the fore

Performances by youngsters this afternoon at DakshinaChitra

DakshinaChitra in association with Aseema Trust presents "Gillu Gillu Gillakku", comprising performances by the youth, today at 3.30 p.m., at DakshinaChitra, East Coast Road, Muttukadu.

Sixty students of the Government High School, Thiruporur, and Jai Ganesh Tala Vadya Vidyalaya will present konnakkol (the art of collaborative syllable recitation and talavadyam). The students were trained by Umashankar, son of ghatam maestro T.H. Vinayakram, at weekend workshops conducted over the last two months.

This will followed by a group violin recital by 40 students of Carva (C.A. Rajasekharan's Violin Academy) at 4.15 p.m.

The evening will conclude with Oyilattam and Devarattam by Kannan Kumar and troupe. Oyilattam and Devarattam are traditional folk dance forms of Tamil Nadu.
