Boom time
For the first time in history, Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) exceeded $3 billion in worldwide ticket sales for the year 2006. In India, SPE crossed Rs. 116 crore in gross box-office sales for the third consecutive year. It distributed the year's biggest Hollywood hits in India "Casino Royale", "Pirates of the Caribbean-2" and "Da Vinci Code". In fact, the Bond movie has become the second highest grosser ever after "Titanic" in the country. Says Uday Singh, Managing Director of SPE India operations: "This inspired performance has been due to a fabulous line-up of movies and dedicated marketing and distribution across India." In 2007, SPE has three potential blockbusters, including "Spiderman-3" and "Pirates of the Caribbean-3". It will also be the first Hollywood studio to produce a Hindi film Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Saawariya".
