TRAVEL TIPS

Want to take a short break?

You've been working non-stop for two months and want to take a break? You want a weeklong break, but it is a busy month at office and you are not sanctioned leave.

You can either sulk or grab the two days the office is giving you and take off somewhere close by and just chill out.

Sadly, few people look at places close by when they plan a holiday. When you choose a place nearby, you can take more frequent breaks, without letting it affect your work and routine.

Most important, packing for a short holiday is easy, once you get the hang of it. No more carting bulging suitcases and strolleys to faraway towns. Just throw a bag over your shoulder and take off!

Follow these easy packing tips so that you can embark on a holiday in a jiffy:

* Keep a box of essentials readily packed. Medicines, toothbrushes and paste and freebie hotel toiletries that you have brought home can be permanently kept in a kit. Just check the contents from time to time to ensure the expiry date is not anywhere near.

* Your wallet must have a little cash, credit cards and documents like licence and identity card. Rely more on credit cards. Losing cash during a holiday can ruin your break.

* When it comes to packing clothes, remember not to put in too much. A pair of jeans is best. Carry extra shirts and tops. For kids, pack in extra pairs of undergarments. Leave a little space in your bag to bring back holiday purchases.

* If you on a rural holiday, a powerful flashlight will be useful. Pack in extra batteries too. Carry disposable bags to bring back dirty laundry. Carry a couple of light books to keep you engaged during your short journey. And, never forget to carry wipes and tissues, especially if you are travelling with a kid.
