Anwar Rasheed is all excited about `Chotta Mumbai', LINU HANEEF listens to his new plans
|
GOOD START Anwar Rasheed wants his film to have a message.
After the super duper hit of 2005, `Rajamanikkam', the young director Anwar Rasheed presents `Chotta Mumbai' starring Mohanlal. During the conversation on the set he revealed, how and why he chose this profession.
"It was always my dream to be associated with movies, for which I had created a path for myself from my college days, first as a still photographer, winning prizes from universities and accolades from the industry; this in turn gave me a chance to work as assistant and as associate director for many of the industry's top directors. Working with them gave me the confidence and courage to go solo."
He went solo with `Rajamanikkam', which became one of the biggest grossers in the Malayalam movie industry. "I owe my success to Renjith the versatile director, who was supposed to do Rajamanikkam. Owing to unavoidable circumstances he could not do it, and recommended it to me. I did it with his blessing, and as you know the rest is history."
When asked why there was a one and a half year gap between the movies, he said, "right after my first movie Rajuatten (Maniyan Pilla Raju) approached me with this proposal and I accepted it, the so called gap happened because Lalettan had so many prior commitments and my turn came now. Since I could only visualise him as Vasco, I waited, and I am sure my wait will be worth a million." He was not wiling to explain Vasco's character in detail. He said, "Let that be a surprise."
Speaking about the movie he said the story has a touch of humour throughout. It is about a bunch of youngsters with Lalettan as their leader, how they struggle to keep up with the fast growing life of Kochi, which is becoming just like Mumbai in every aspect of life. The cast includes Siddique, Indrajith, Bhavana, Manikkuttan, Bijukuttan etc
On the sets you can see that every one respects this young man even though he is not a director with many films under his belt. He is not much into intense movies but would like to do movies with different themes.
"No I have no dream projects, but I would like to do films if a good story comes by, but not just for the sake of doing such a story. I can always do a documentary if that is so. I would like the film to have some good message to society. I prefer to serve people by entertaining them."
Even though he is a native of Kollam, Anwar has lived mostly in Kochi. He too belongs to the many good talents in the film industry from Maharaja's College, like Mamooty, Kochin Haneefa, Fazil, Siddique(director), Dileep and the young talents like Rajeev Ravi cinematographer and Amal Neerad the new director in the tinsel town.
Both Anwar and Amal are good friends, and this Vishu we will get to watch movies from these young men, `Chotta Mumbai' starring super star Mohan Lal, `Big B', directed by Amal, starring Mammooty. When asked whether this competition will affect their friendship, Anwar's reply was, "No, our personal relationship will always remain the same, but I expect a healthy competition between our movies. Both the movies have different themes and will be treated with our individual style, so the people can expect a season of fun and entertainment this Vishu."
