GOING BACK IN TIME Radhika

Radhika and her Radaan Media Works have made a comeback with "Arasi," on Sun TV. Radhika says "Arasi" is a prequel to "Selvi," on which the curtains came down recently.

"The response has been phenomenal so far," says Radhika.

So far, nobody has thought of making a prequel. And, it seems to be working in "Arasi".

"Writing the script proved to be a challenge. My team of scriptwriters, Kani and Raj Prabhu, along with director Samudrakani came up with the idea of a prequel with new characters as well as successful characters from "Selvi." Kalanidhi Maran of Sun TV felt it was a good idea and asked us to go ahead."

"Selvi" was about the friendship between the two lead characters, Selvi and Thamarai. However, when Sarita, who played Thamarai, decided to opt out of the serial, it lost focus.

Arasi is a powerful character, a strong willed, practical, loving housewife and a disciplined police officer who is the mother of Selvi! Arasi has two other children.

Her husband is an upright judge (Sivachandran). The drama will unfold even as other characters from "Selvi" such as GJ (Venu Arivind) and Yogeswaran (Ravi Kumar) join the new characters.

"Arasi" begins in Rameswaram, a place associated with what is called the destiny theory. Samudrakani, the director, says: "The drama will unfold as an emotional battle ensues between Arasi and Selvi, both strong willed women."

Radhika, who has come in for praise for her `Arasi' looks, says: "Well, Arasi meeting Selvi is not likely to happen in the near future as that will be the suspense element."
