Offbeat film

Ameer is a gutsy director who has proved his mettle with realistic films such as "Mounam Pesiyadhe" and "Raam". He likes to take the road less travelled. There is a lot of hype about his latest film "Paruthiveeran", releasing this Friday. It marks the acting debut of Karthi, Surya's younger brother. Ameer tells the story of a daring young man branded as a rowdy by the police. He fights for the poor and the downtrodden. The story is set against a Madurai village. Karthi is paired with Priyamani. The film also stars 60 others who have never faced a camera before. Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed and reworked folk songs. The camera is by Ramji.
