Rocking audiences the Sunidhi way

Sunidhi Chauhan and Raghav Sachar, who were child prodigies, continue to work very hard to produce great music. They performed recently in the city

YOUNG AND MUSICAL .Sunidhi Chauhan and . Raghav Sachar performed in the city recently

They are young, talented, spirited, and confident. Hard working perfectionist serves both well as a description. They were both child prodigies. Never the less, they come across as humble and levelheaded people. They believe in learning and maintain they have a long way to go, no matter how far they have come. Sunidhi Chauhan, the `Singing Sensation of India' and Raghav Sachar, up-coming music director and a master of all musical instruments, seem to have a lot in common.

At the age of four, Sunidhi's talent was discovered when she was singing in a temple and so was Raghav's when he began playing songs that he heard on Chitrahar, perhaps the only music programme back in those days. Their parents were extremely supportive and did everything to nourish their talents. They both turned out to be perfectionists and God for them lies in the details for sure. And what happens when two such people come together to perform in tandem? Magic.

Successful decade

Sunidhi, has seen a decade in this industry, and it has been a very successful and eventful journey so far. From the little girl who walked up the stage to receive the best performers award in Meri Aawaz Suno to the pro who was honored with the prestigious R D Burman award, there have been dedicated hours of learning and practice that have gone in. "I have a number of releases this year, `Honeymoon travels', `Just married', `Sholay', `Ta-ra-rum-pum-pum," said the beaming artiste. And she has her solo album finally in the making after five long years, which she is quite excited about too.

Having performed in the city before, "The audience is so mellow and well-behaved and patient .You couldn't ask for more, as a performer. I came here as a child to perform and then last year too, but never really had to time to travel around Kearla. On my last trip, I treated myself to a relaxing Ayurvedic massage, and it was great. I really hope to come back to take a break'' While unwinding for equally busy Raghav, would be going on a long drive, which he did often on the roads of Sydney, where he was studying Composition and Instrumentation at the famed Monash University or a relaxed game of golf, which he and his father are passionate about.

As a child he had a deal with his dad, that every birthday, his present had to be a new musical instrument and throughout the year he could not ask for anything more. Music came so naturally to him, all he needed was inspiration and he could take off from there. World music is what he classifies his music as. "But essentially Indian in soul!" He adds with pride.

"The youth today are extremely evolved when it comes to appreciating music, and it feels good to know they understand what we create," says the 25-year-old music director of Kabul Express. Coy but confident at the same time, so much at ease with the place that he has earned for himself, he says he has a long way to go.

The `Dhoom machale' girl has taken the country by storm especially with the tracks she sang for Dhoom, and excitedly she says "when I do shows abroad, it's overwhelming when people come up and ask me if this song is some sort of an anthem!"

Being able to sing exceptionally well is not enough for a vocal artist today, the way one carries oneself on stage brings in all the aura that the fans look for. So who adds glamour to the oomph of this Diva on stage with an imaginative wardrobe?

"My friend Anshu and I pool in our ideas and create the designs for my clothes for stage shows, and I enjoy doing it" adds the charming young lady.
