RIVETING BLEND Mumbai based Gavin Miguel designed the lovely clothes for the show
Glamour, elegance and superb artistry make a heady mix and we experienced these in abundant proportions at the coupe de theatre presented by Mercedes Benz last Saturday.
It was a lovely balmy evening and the compère was hard put to get guests into the Ball Room of the Taj West End. Invitees clustered around three eye-catching models displayed on the cobblestone driveway- the M Class, the S Class and the captivating SLK, the sports model coupe.
We jumped the queue ahead of The West End's charming General Manager Mohan Kumar to get a first hand experience. A riveting blend of flair and function, the coupe is indeed a dream car. We heard that eight lucky Bangaloreans have bought this model priced at about Rs. 55 lakh. There is a higher end variant too at about Rs. 80 lakh, if you are interested.
After recalcitrant guests were finally seated, the fashion show opened on an intriguing note. Long-limbed models in flowing cocktail dresses presented a tableau of a party, air kissing each other and draping themselves fetchingly around elegantly attired male models.
The clothes were designed by Mumbai based Gavin Miguel (who styled Aishwarya Rai's sizzling new look in Dhoom 2) and ranged from formal, smart casual, Western, Indo-Western to sportswear. The outfits included black bodysuits and one of the sequences had a sizzling catfight. Initially, the models, barring the delightful Rachel, seemed a little listless (perhaps they haven't yet recovered from the New Year parties) but they perked up while strutting around in the stunning coloured sportswear.
The raison de être of the evening was the launch of the seventh edition of the Mercedes Golf Trophy in India. Dr.Wilfred Arthur, CEO & MD of Daimler Chrysler India unveiled an exquisite trophy - a Swarovski crystal ball on a tee. The qualifier golf tournament for the Southern region was conducted earlier in the day and the winners and runners-up in three handicap divisions were presented awards that ranged from Mont Blanc pens to Swarovski crystal studded trophies.
These six will face off against the winners from the other regions in Pune on February 24. Three lucky winners at the national finals, with their spouses, will then fly off courtesy Swiss Air to Stuttgart for the Mercedes Trophy World Final 2007.
Achala Sachdev choreographed the show and Rishi Narain organised the golf tournament.
