DONNING A NEW ROLE A lyricist turned actor

Having penned lyrics for several movies, Snehan is now all set to venture into acting. He will play the lead role in a film tentatively named, `Vellai Arikkai', to be directed by Premnath.

Excited about the new project, Snehan is preparing himself to don the mantle. "It will be a commercial film with all the ingredients to satisfy the fans. Regular workouts have now become a part of my routine and I want to give my best in the movie," he says. The film shooting is slated to begin next month.

Snehan, who caught the attention of the audience through some good numbers including `avaravar vazhkayil ... ', `thozha thozha... ' in the film `Pandavar Bhoomi' and `Adatha attamellam... ' in the movie `Mounam Pesiyadhe' confides that he wants to be recognised more as a lyricist.

A dream

"That has always been my dream and I have done all the hard work to reach this level. Acting just happened and came my way," he says.

Snehan also feels that when situation demands there is no harm in using English words and adds there is no compulsion from music directors to use foreign words.

The lyricist is also the Indian President of the Dynamic Self-Awakening Centre, which aims at motivating people and making them believe in their abilities. "We have conducted workshops in Malaysia, India and the response has been overwhelming. I am planning to conduct such workshops throughout Tamil Nadu and motivate the people and youth in particular to reach greater heights," he says.

Rapport with directors

Snehan enjoys a special relationship with Ameer and Cheran and says he feels comfortable working with the directors. "A lyricist needs freedom to come out with the best product. And I think he has to be handled properly. I consider myself to be lucky for having worked with such directors."

Snehan says that he had always dreamt of working with Ilayaraja and it became a reality when he wrote for the soon-to-be released film `Mayakannadi.' "Ilayaraja has also sung my song in `Paruthi Veeran' and that makes me feel great."

Snehan is also actively into politics and was seriously campaigning for the AIADMK in last Assembly elections. "I am a die-hard fan of M.G.R. and I wanted to serve the people just as he did. That's the reason for me getting into politics. I hope to succeed on this front too," he says.
