FOUR FRAMES

A different light

Madhur Bhandarkar, one of those directors who have dared to be different in Bollywood, has come out with his new film "Traffic Signal". Madhur once again deals with his favourite city Mumbai and the cast comprises newcomers, including noted director Sudhir Mishra, who plays the bad guy. Says Madhur: "Actually `Traffic Signal' is part of my trilogy on Mumbai. If `Page 3' dealt with the lifestyles of the rich and famous, `Corporate' gave a boardroom view of big business. I wanted the third section to be set in the streets of Mumbai. The film is about those who thrive on people waiting at traffic signals and their nexus with politicians - this industry is estimated to be worth Rs. 200 crore." Today the national award-winning director has an audience for his films, especially in the multiplexes where offbeat films are well received.
