Seminar on "Nation, gender and modernity in popular Korean and Indian cinema"
|
InKo Centre and LV Prasad Film and TV Academy will present a one-day seminar on "Nation, Gender and Modernity in Popular Korean and Indian Cinema", on February 6, at the Conference Hall, Prasad Laboratories, Saligramam.
There are a number of contexts in Asia where cinema is directly and indirectly linked to a range of issues that are political in nature. The three-way interface between the contemporary, the popular and the political is an issue that cinema in Asia foregrounds.
Kim Soyoung, filmmaker, film scholar and professor at the Cinema Studies Department of the Korean National University of the Arts; Earl Jackson, Jr. Professor of English Language and Literature at Korea University and Hariharan, director, LV Prasad Film and TV Academy will discuss aspects of nation and statehood, gender and sexuality and notions of modernity. The speakers will supplement their comments with screenings of film clips and documentaries.
The one-day seminar will bring together film studies specialists, film critics, filmmakers and students.
