Skilfulness lies in knowing what not to do. Much of what a disk jockey can do might be unsuitable for a particular setting. The turntable can't be loud or keep a fast tempo in a room where people expect to have a quiet dinner or a pleasant conversation over a drink. Playing dance music when none is dancing will be the worst thing a DJ can do.

DJs at Rhapsody, the restaurant and bar at Courtyard by Marriott, have enforced discipline on the turntable. Recently, they made known the music that would be served alongside food and drink. They call it Rhapsody music — which is largely music that stays at the fringes of consciousness and assists in creating an expansive mood, but does not compete with the conversation.

DJ Tanseer lists out the music menu — "Ambient, Lounge, Minimal DownTempo, Deep House and BarGrooves". Hip-hop and Trip-hop have been added on, for a bit of spice.

The hotel has signed up DJs for special days. A roster will be maintained to let the visitor know who plays what and when. DJs Tanseer, D'Pak and Ravi will be hosts on special days. Tanseer will play on the first Saturday of every month, and D'Pak on all other Saturdays. Ravi will put what he learnt from the rappers of New York to use on all Wednesdays. On other days, it will be one of the two resident DJs — Sandeep and Sabrish.
