Dhrupad Sangeeth

DHRUPAD DUO The Gundecha Brothers

Umakant and Ramakant Gundecha, Gundecha Brothers, the internationally acclaimed exponents of the Dhrupad style of music, will perform at the Kerala Fine Arts Hall, Kochi, on February 5 at 6.15 p.m. The Dhrupad is the most ancient style of the Hindustani classical style.

The nature of Dhrupad is spiritual, seeking not to entertain but induce feelings of peace and contemplation.

Trained under the eminent Dhrupad vocalist Ustad Zia Fariuddin Dagar and Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, the Gundecha Brothers are an integral part of various national and international music festivals.

They have composed music for several documentaries and sung many poems of the great Hindi poets in the Dhrupad style.

The Gundecha Brothers are now teaching at the Dhrupad Sansthan in Bhopal, an institution they have set up.

The programme is being organised jointly by the Bank Employees Arts Movement Ernakulam (BEAME) and Kerala Fine Arts Society.
