THAT FAMILIAR SMILE Renuka Shahane
Even 20 years after Surbhi, Renuka Shahane is still committed to our memory for her wide, toothy smile. After a bit of cinema and some television work, Renuka, who in between got married to actor Ashutosh Rana, gradually receded from the lights-camera-action scene, to create a family.
And now, a mother of two, with a trimmer waistline than before, the talented actress is back to what she is best remembered for - the telly. Starting this Monday night, viewers shall spot her on Sony TV's new daily, Jeete Hain Jiske Liye.
Says Renuka, "I am sure viewers will like the serial. With my children still quite young, I was in two minds." Television, which has undergone many changes in the last few years, says Renuka, now looks for newer, fresh faces with each new story, and "so I feel I am extremely lucky to have bagged this role after five years of not acting, when they could have gone for a new face."
Appreciated for her small, but convincing role of `bari bahu' in Rajshri Productions' all-time blockbuster Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Renuka will don the role of `bari bahu'in this serial too. A clear instance of typecasting, though the actress says she has no problem with it.
"Everyone gets trapped in it. Even big actors get similar roles in which the audience identifies with them more. I am beginning to accept the fact," she says, flashing that popular smile.
With no film offers yet, she says she would still like to consider the big screen if any good role comes her way. "But at present, I have no film role, though I feel I am more of a television person," she adds.
Though there would be many viewers who would look for Renuka's on-screen giggles in this serial too, the actress says, "I would feel I have done justice to the role if people forget me in it and remember only my character Anjali." Truly, only rarely do you come across such thinking in our tellyworld these days.
