Car and bike questions? We have the answers

I own a 2004 model Scorpio and am not comfortable with the stability of the vehicle at high speeds. I am planning to change my tyres and am looking to upsize them. I prefer imported tyres. What would be your suggestion?

Cherian Punnose, via email

Your best option for upsizing the tyres of your Scorpio are to fit 255/70-R15 tyres, either from Michelin or Pirelli.

I plan to buy an SUV. I had decided to buy the Audi Q7 but does the company have any other SUVs? I don't mind importing it. If not, when is BMW launching its X5 and X3?

Sidhant, via email

The X5 would be worth waiting for. Bookings opened last month and deliveries are slated to start from June this year.

When is the seven-seater Logan Estate from Mahindra expected and what will be its specs and approximate on-road price? Likewise, when is the Logan SUV slated to roll out and will it be priced higher or at par with the Scorpio?

Devashish Nath, via email

The Logan Estate is expected in late 2007 or early 2008. There are no plans for the Logan SUV yet and it is unlikely to be on Indian roads before mid-2008.

I am looking for a new scoot to do local runs. My wife and daughter will be using the machine also - so it has to be easy and light enough to handle. It also needs to score high on practical storage space. Though the Dio looks good, the Activa seems to be a more practical solution - the Hero Honda Pleasure I won't be seen riding on since it's been branded a woman's bike. The Scooty Pep seems too small. Any suggestions?

K T Ramesh, via email

Take a look at the new Bajaj Kristal. It works out to be the kind of practical machine you are looking for, with better storage space on offer than the Activa. It also undoubtedly looks good, with styling that's fresher than the lot of existing scooterettes. For more details on this bike, refer to the lead story on our pages this week. Get a helmet while you are at it, and yes, happy riding to you!
