Water, at last!

Deepa Mehta's controversial "Water" about the widows of Varanasi, which had to be filmed in Sri Lanka following denial of permission to shoot in India, is releasing this Friday, more than six months after its world premiere! More bizarre is that this Hindi film was chosen as Canada's official entry to the Oscars in the best foreign film category, where it lost out. The film has Seema Biswas, Lisa Ray and John Abraham among others in the cast. Third in the trilogy after "Fire" and "Earth", "Water" is director Deepa Mehta's long cherished dream that has finally been realised.
