Casting coup

Connoisseurs of cinema have reason enough to cheer. Shyam Prasad, the young Malayalam director of critically acclaimed films such as "Agnisakshi" and "Akale," has managed a casting coup. Shyam has roped in two of the finest actors in the country, Mammootty and Meera Jasmine, both National award winners, along with Narain for his new film "Ore Kadal." The film is based on Sunil Gangopadhyay's Bengali classic, "Heerak Deepti," and is a love story set in an intense and difficult situation. Says Shyam Prasad, who is shooting in Chennai: "`Ore Kadal' (the sea within) is an intimate study of the man-woman relationship set in modern times. For me, it is a continuation of the earlier themes I have done on love and redemption."
