Cross-cultural comedy

Akshay Kumar needs a hit to establish himself as a superstar in Bollywood. What better opportunity can there be than the Vipul Shah-directed "Namastey London", in which he stars with Katrina Kaif, Rishi Kapoor, Upen Patel and Pakistani actor Javed Sheikh? Rishi Kapoor is a London-based businessman who brings his daughter Katrina Kaif back to his village in Punjab and gets her married to a son of the soil, Akshay Kumar, who can barely speak English! What follows is an emotional tug of war between Indian values and Western culture as the newly married couple go back to London. The film is said to be a mixture of Manoj Kumar's "Purab aur Paschim" and Aditya Chopra's "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge." Another highlight is the coming together of Javed Akhtar, a great lyricist, and Himesh Reshammiya, the king of bhangra pop.
