PEAR READY Sanjeev Kumar giving a live demo

Pears are delightfully juicy and are among the favourite fruits this season. This elusively sweet flavoured fruit can be used to make various mouth-watering recipes. To introduce people to a few more flavours of the fruit, celebrity Chef Sanjeev Kapoor conducted a live recipe demonstration by using the popular USA Pears at the Spencer's Mega City Mall in Gurgaon this week.

He prepared two recipes from pears (called Anjou Green and Anjou Red). First, he demonstrated USA Pears Crumble, by cutting pears into cubes and then mixed with ginger, honey and apple juice. It was tossed with a crumbled topping of dry porridge oats, almonds, and brown sugar. The dish was then baked in a preheated oven to give it a delicious flavour. The other dish was a nutritious pear salad by mixing pears with lettuce, black grapes, small tomatoes, corns and vinegar. He also answered audience questions on food and food-related myths. "Not all vegetarian food is free of cholesterol ," he said. Talking about pear's benefit, he said, "This fruit is rich in vitamin C, fibre, and potassium and is low in calories. It's the only fruit which is an anytime snack." Sumit Saran, of USA Pears said, "It is to show people on how best this versatile fruit can be used." A recipe book on USA Pears is in the pipeline.
