To Egypt with Celina

Celina Jaitley is the Egypt Tourism Authority's brand ambassador

Negotiations are also going on to organise the IIFA Awards in Egypt

BRAND AMBASSADOR Celina Jaitley

Bollywood stars seem to have found fame not just in India but abroad too.

While Shilpa Shetty won a reality show, actress Celina Jaitley has been appointed the Egypt Tourism Authority's brand ambassador. Recently, Amr El Ezaby, Chairman of the Egyptian Tourism Board, bestowed her with this honour.

"I am pleased to be in India. It was quite easy to find a symbol of the great Egyptian culture and history in Celina. Her colourful personality along with her vibrant beauty is a perfect match for the mystic beauty of Egypt," said Amr El Ezaby.

First visit

Celina, who has herself never visited Egypt, said, "My mother is an archaeologist, I grew up hearing so much about Egyptian culture. It is the land of Cleopatra, Isis and oases and so much more. Mystery has always fascinated me. I have read quite a lot about the country and will soon leave for Cairo."

His Excellency, The Ambassador of the Aran Republic of Egypt, Dr. Mohammed Higazy, said, "We want people to know that Egypt is not just about the pyramids. We are working strategically on the tourism industry in Egypt. For its growth, we are offering easy visas, lower ticket rates and various tour packages. We hope the number of Indian tourists to Egypt will double by 2009."

Higazy also emphasised that both India and Egypt are known to be the oldest civilisations on earth. Negotiations are on to organise the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards in Egypt, sometime soon.

The Egyptian tourism campaign will include shoots and advertisements in both the print and the electronic media.
