Lavish spending on weddings is becoming a regular practice with people flaunting their wealth. Extravagant spending on their wards’ weddings by a few is putting a heavy burden on the not so fortunate parents as well. The pomp and gaiety shown by TV channels during celebrity weddings have been one of the major factors that influence people to imitate if not emulate as far as spending is concerned. Instead of indulging in such wasteful expenditure, people can think of contributing to old age homes and orphanages thereby making weddings much more memorable. In a country where 40 percent of the population still lives below poverty line, lavish wedding expenditure is a disservice to the society.
