Mangalorean Roshan D’Souza is proud of his city and has decided to create an exclusive space for it in cyberspace

online Roshan D’Souza has launched Mangalorean.com from Washington

Mangaloreans that have made their mark in the world, includes luminaries like Vijay Mallya, Aishwarya Rai, Shilpa Shetty and Suniel Shetty. Now it is time for the city’s techies, to grab the limelight. For Roshan D’Souza, his portal Manga lorean.com, is a dream come true to launch a portal to showcase Mangalore to the world. He has created the website in Washington D.C. and he spoke to MetroPlus through email to mark the portal’s fourth anniversary.

Four years ago when he launched Mangalorean.com, D’Souza wanted to put Mangalore on the world map. The idea became reality on an old computer. Putting his expertise in technology to good use and with support from a friend, Queenie Mendonca, he set about designing and developing the website, which took almost five months to complete. In its first avatar it had only eight columns. Now the website is sporting a new look. D’Souza agrees that sitting in Washington and manning a website that unites Mangaloreans is a daunting task. He says in today’s tech-savvy world “instant updates are the way of life and the industry demands it”. He pays tribute to a dedicated band of supporters, correspondents and photographers who have been instrumental in keeping the site going.

The reason for the portal’s success has been very simple.

“From its inception, Mangalorean.com has veered away from being just a community website and has consciously strived to be different,” says D’Souza. “Our volunteers are from different corners of the world, yet they propagate the true spirit of Mangalore with their literary contributions. They hold the fabric of this website and weave magic with their tapestry of reports, articles and features that today form the basis of Mangalorean.com. There can be no greater proof of Mangalorean unity.”
