Habib Tanvir on his last production and autobiography
|
Class act Habib Tanvir
Habib Tanvir is busy finishing his autobiography.
Tanvir is penning his autobiography in Urdu, with translations in Hindi and English. “I’m going through the proofs. I’ve noticed a lot of gaps in the memoirs.
Hopefully, in volume two, I should be able to fill up the gaps,” he says. Has he considered an audio book along with his biography? “My creativity gets stalled when I come in contact with the electronic media,” he laughs, adding, “I use a mobile phone and just know to answer calls and check messages. But I cannot still reply.”
Talking about funding for theatre, he comments: “Those who are waiting for government funds to put up plays are waiting for Godot. Why should the government worry about art and culture? We artistes have no vote bank.”
Tanvir rules out rural theatre as he did in Chhattisgarh. “That form of theatre has been bulldozed by television and cinema. Of late, I have been witnessing innovative forms of theatre but content has taken a backseat.”
Apart from his autobiography, Tanvir is busy developing a 50-year-old play penned by Jagdish Chandra Mathur. “This may be my last production,” he says.
