Momentous occasion A well-groomed appearance boosts confidence

The cherished dream of any person, be it a man or woman, is to look their best on the ‘Once in a lifetime moment’. They would like to hear the invitees say: Hey look! They are made for each other.

Any average looking person can be transformed into an extraordinary individual within a few weeks of grooming by beauty care experts. These days, even prospective grooms are vying with their counterparts when it comes to ‘looking good’ and ‘feeling great’ on the momentous occasion.

Beauty clinics for women and men have come out with special packages to meet the specific needs of their clients.

“Clients mostly come to us seeking clearer looking skin, extra shine and blemish-free skin. They want their hair to be soft and manageable. Some of them seek straightening and colouring of hair,” says K. Satya of Do Up.

“We first analyse the client and recommend the skin and hair packages according to their need,” she says and avers that customised packages would be better as each individual’s skin and body conditions would be different.

“It’s better to start the beauty treatments one-and-a-half to three months before the wedding depending on the skin treatments required by the individual. Initially, the sittings could be once a week or so but their frequency would be increased as the D-Day approaches. This is because the prospective brides and grooms would have to go out often for shopping, distribution of wedding cards to friends and the like. There is a danger of their skin getting sun burnt and the damage has to be undone.”

“One shouldn’t look for an occasion to get things done. A regular beauty care regimen will prepare a person to be ready for any occasion,” feels Satya whose beauty clinic also draws candidates who have to attend interviews.

“Regular conditioning of hair is important as constant exposure to sunlight and pollution deprives it of its sheen,” says T. Tripura, an MBA graduate, who has been following beauty care tips for the past seven years.

She underlines the importance of a healthy and balanced diet to keep the body strong and keep the skin glowing. “In today’s competitive world one should make a lasting impression to be successful,” she adds.

“I have been following the beauty regimen for two months prior to my marriage,” said Shanti Priya, an MCA II year student of ICFAI, who got married recently. She feels that complexion can be improved with regular massages.

When it comes to body care, men no longer want to lag behind and are making a beeline to beauty clinics and salons for facials, hair colouring and massages. Toppers, near Diamond Park, is drawing prospective grooms not only from the city but also from distant places like Rajahmundry, Kakinada, Anakapalle and even Jeypore in neighbouring Orissa State.

“We have introduced and promoted the wedding concepts for men in the city. Men are willing to shell out a fortune and are prepared to spend a good amount of time at the salon to avail of our services,” says V. Venkateswara Rao, proprietor of Toppers.

“We have a month-long package in which the client is given facials and other special packages once a week. Special herbal packages are given to those who come just three to four days before their wedding. The application of herbal creams and massages would require three to four hours a day.”

VLCC promises a complete head to toe makeover with a full range of specialised beauty treatments, skin and hair care services as well as customised figure correction programme.

Its bridal package includes: focused counselling, figure correction, bridal bath and wedding day services. The bridegroom package consists of aroma scalp massage, beard perming, full face threading, centre eye brows, hair streaking, colouring, waxing of shoulders, back and chest.
