I have very small eyes and to cover them, I wear plain glasses. What shall I do? Mehul

You can make small eyes look larger with make-up. Apply a light shadow on the upper lids and dark shadow in the crease of the eyes.

Use a brown or grey eyeliner or eye pencil close to the lashes, on the outer part of the upper lids and lower lids. Use mascara to darken the upper and lower eyelashes.

I am 20 and have thick, curly, unmanageable hair. I would like to grow it and get it straightened. Is straightening harmful?Karpaga

The hair is straightened by the use of chemical lotions or heat application.

Yes, it does damage the texture of the hair. When the hair grows out, it will be curly, since that is your natural hair texture.

Applying a creamy conditioner after shampooing may help soften the hair. Or you may try to straighten it at home with a blow dryer.

The effect will last only till the next shampoo. After washing the hair, while it is still damp, divide it into sections.

Hold the end of a section straight and slightly downwards with a comb or brush, and use a hand held dryer to dry the hair.

Repeat this with each section.

Hold the dryer at least six inches away from the hair. However, excessive use of the hair dryer can cause dryness of the hair.

I am allergic to deodorants. I have tried many, but they cause irritation. Suggest a home-made deodorant?Prajakta

Deodorants contain chemical anti-perspirants, which can cause skin irritation and allergies. Instead of using roll-on deodorants, which are applied on the skin, try spray-on deodorants or colognes. Y

ou can make a fragrance at home with rosewater and pure sandalwood essential oil. Add only five drops of the essential oil to 50 ml of rose water.

Instead of sandalwood oil, use lavender essential oil if you wish.

Or you can add a few drops of perfume. Note that essential oils should never be used by themselves. They must be diluted.

I have grown my nails but don’t know how to maintain them. Ranjini

Massage cream on the hands and nails daily.

Never cut the cuticle. After soaking the nails in warm water, apply cream on the nails.

Massage them, so that it helps soften the skin. Then push the cuticles back gently using a cotton bud.

Never use sharp instruments to clean under the nails.

Wrap cotton wool around a thin stick, or use a cotton bud, to clean under the nails.

You can shape the nails into an oval using an emery board.

File the nails in one direction only and not back and forth. Keep the diet rich in calcium.
