Five star comfort

Manipal University’s S. Chandrashekar Hostel takes academic stay to a different level

Plush digs The hostel is every student’s dream

For students studying in various institutions at Manipal University, facilities provided at hostels are godsend. Care is taken to ensure their stay is as comfortable as possible but the S. Chandrashekhar Hostel is taking boarding to a different level .

The university has built a super posh hostel for women. All the rooms are air-conditioned with 167 single rooms and 44 double. Shyamali Joseph from Philadelphia is a second year student at Malacca Manipal Medical College. “My two-and-a-half year stay in hostel has been very comfortable. It is centrally located and I can get to my class quickly. My sister Tina also stayed in this hostel. The 24-hour coffee shop is a great help when we are studying at night. I have many friends from other courses here. We have a lot of fun.”

You have to visit the hostel to believe the incredible facilities. There are power points for a fridge, microwave, toaster and hotplate. A mini kitchen pantry has been provided as well as a point for the Internet.

Veena Ananthasayanam, a first year student at Manipal College of Dental Sciences, is from Toronto, Canada and has been staying in the hostel for the last nine months.

“There is a gym and a study room, where we all study together. It does not make me homesick.” Now how much does it cost to stay at the hostel? Rs. 1.18 lakh per year per student in a double room and Rs. 1.83 lakh per year per student for a single room. That is pretty steep but contentment comes at a price.
