The Indian face can carry off any hairstyle irrespective of the season
Bored with that same old blunt cut? Looking for a new chic hairstyle? Why not try the layered look that is doing the rounds this season? With the temperatures soaring, a majority of people are going in for short, low maintenance haircuts.
A visit to the different salons highlights the fact that a change in hairstyle has become the order of the day. While the curls are back with a bang, the straight, sleek look doesn’t seem to be making its way out for a long time to come. “The funky, rough look is popular among youngsters,” says the manager of a salon. “I however, prefer the formal hairdo,” he says. Tracy, a stylist, feels that the “wash and run” haircut is most preferred this season. “The fringe and bangs are in and everyone wants them,” she says.
Wearable style
Though the asymmetrical haircut is believed to be a favourite, Beena Sondhi, a hairstylist, points out that it is still “not wearable on the roads” and that not many women prefer the messy look. She goes on to add that “there is a misconception that hairstyles ought to be seasonal. The Indian face can carry off just about any hairstyle. There is no particular trend as there is in Europe. Though the summer is in, very few people are opting for a short or cropped look. It is more about the style, than the length.” Rita Ho of a beauty salon has many customers wanting the layered cuts as the “connected layers” are amongst the most wanted hairstyles of the season. As far as colouring of hair is concerned, brunette and coffee coloured tones go best with the Indian skin. Copper and mahogany are options for those with relatively darker skin
The wedge cut is a complete no-no, so are the blunt, straight and mushroom cuts. Darker shades of blond are definitely not recommended for Indian skin. Hairstylists also are strongly against the daily use of shampoo as it strips the scalp off its natural oil and proteins faster.
SEASONS DON’T MATTER While curls are back with a bang, the straight, sleek look too will remain
However, rinsing hair under running water on a daily basis is a must in order to keep one’s hair clean, especially during summer.
Hair dos
* Use a shampoo and conditioner that suits you hair type. Oil and steam your hair often. * For those with coloured hair, use only colour-specific shampoo.
* Deep cleansing shampoos are preferred for oily hair and anti-frizz shampoo for wavy hair.
* Do not use heavy, sticky products or chemicals on the hair. Egg white can also be applied on the hair before shampooing. This increases volume as well as strengthens the roots.
* Green leafy vegetables in the diet ensure healthy hair.
