Beat Street

It’s time for interpretations, tributes and new music this season

Bjork

It Won’t Be Soon Before Long

Maroon 5/Universal

Come May 22 and the LA act returns with their new cover. The album that comes close on heels to their acclaimed single Make Me Wonder follows Live-Friday 13, an album that was based on their tour post Songs About Jane. As for the current cover, it is touted to have taken a retro flavour. Meanwhile, catch the band online on Yahoo Live Sets.

A Tribute to Joni Mitchell

Various /Warner

The project that got started in the late ’90s has been worth the wait what with Bjork, Annie Lennox (the other half of Eurhythmics), Prince, K.D.Lang and Elvis Costello coming together to pay tribute to the musician-songwriter from Saskatoon. Mitchell’s pop, rock and jazz is variously interpreted by indie rockers, pop divas, country and folk practitioners for this cover. Lend an ear.

Adam Levine of Maroon 5

Call Me Irresponsible

Michael Bublé/Warner

Ask Michael Bublé on his third studio album and you get a, “my remark on the state of love….an anthem for star-crossed lovers. To me, what’s different about this CD is that it has a certain raw emotion because I recorded many of these songs live in the studio,” as he beads together the 1972 Gamble and Huff classic popularised by soul singer Billy Paul, a swinging version of Mel Tormé’s 1962 pop hit featuring vocals from Boys II Men, self-penned ballad co-written with Chang and Canadian singer-songwriter Jann Arden, an emotional rendition of Eric Clapton’s ballad with Brazilian singer-songwriter Ivan Lins .
