With the dates of filing income tax returns inching closer, the itching to find somebody to fill the cumbersome details for you must be increasing. There is help at hand.

Nabhi Publications have come up with “Income Tax Guidelines & Mini Ready Reckoner”for 2007-08 and 2008-09. Manav Jain, Director, Nabhi Books and son of Nabhi Kumar Jain who started the publication some 40 years back says this is one of their best sellers for the last 35 years. “We sell at least 25000 copies every year. People come and ask for “mini ready”.

For the layman

Manav shares the USP is that it is written keeping a layman in mind though professionals also use it for reference. “We know tax issues are complicated but we tell our editors to make it as simple as possible.”

The book tells in easy terms how to make a statement of taxable income, the incomes exempt from tax, permissible deductions from gross total income, payment of advance tax, and the like. The tables for ready reckoner have been compiled enabling the assessees to correctly claim deductions as well as to correctly work out their net income tax liability.

The chapter on how to save tax highlights the major areas whereby the tax liability can be reduced to nil.

To help the layman further, Nabhi has also released a book on civil engineering.

Called “Practical Problems and Solutions in Civil Engineering Works”, the book is penned by S.C. Basu Roy, who has been the chief engineer with NDMC.

“The book tells how to solve problems like dampness and maintenance with locally available sources. Issues like fire safety measures have also been addressed,” says Manav.
