Karera Wildlife Sanctuary SANCTUARY SPOTLIGHT
The Karera Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh is home to the Indian bustard and blackbuck.
Many migratory birds flock to the Dihaila Jheel here. The best time to visit this region is from November to February.
Avifauna: Around 245 migratory birds including pintails, teals and gadwalls, resident birds such as black-bellied river terns, egrets, spoonbills, herons and Indian robins have made the place their home.
At the Madhav Shivpuri National Park nearby (45 km from Karera), you can spot leopards, striped hyenas, jackals, jungle cats, chitals, sambhars, nilgais, four-horned antelopes, wild boars, gazelle, sloth bears, langurs, and crocodiles.
How to get there
By Air: Gwalior, 150 km from Karera, is the nearest airport. There are regular flights from Gwalior to Mumbai, Delhi, and Indore.
By Rail: Jhansi, at a distance of around 44 km off Karera, is the nearest railway station.
Jhansi is connected to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and many more cities by several trains.
By Road: Karera is connected to Shivpuri and Jhansi by regular buses.
