Inspiring children

A ‘Dragonball Z’-inspired programme will initiate children into martial arts

Cartoon Network has come up with an initiative, Cartoon Network School of Self Defence under the aegis of its popular show - DRAGONBALL Z. The channel will promote martial arts for self defence by training students across 500 schoo ls in nine cities, reaching approximately 450,000 kids. The initiative is linked with DRAGONBALL Z and its lead character Goku. Besides self defence, the objective is to inculcate discipline and concentration in kids and impress upon t hem the importance of martial arts.

The self defence workshops will be spearheaded by martial arts consultant, Sharif, who is a 5th Dan in Kick boxing, a fourth degree black belt in Karate and has been enlisted for several corporate trainings. In consultation with the Network, Sharif has specially designed a module apt for kids between 6 and12 years.

Starting today, the Cartoon Network teams will be travelling to schools in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Vadodra, Lucknow, Coimbatore and Bangalore.

The channel is also starting a fun contest from July 15. With signature power-shouts forming an integral part of DRAGONBALL Z, the contest spot will ask kids to pick up the phone and give their best ‘power shout’ like th eir hero Goku.

Four lucky kids will win an opportunity to feature as a superhero in an animated short!

And just like their favourite toon hero Goku - they will get to save the world.
