Outshining one another Youngsters displaying their talent at ‘Young buzz’ Dance

Salsa has an addictive quality inherent in its rhythm which fuels the desire to become part of it and express it physically, this varied music enveloped by the umbrella term ‘salsa,’ and its fundamental, most visible instrument... DANCE... Dance gives life to the music in many visible forms. To keep this high spirit alive, Hyderabad Central organised a competition for couples to outshine one another during their three- week- long festival titled ‘Young bu zz’.

True to its style, this time more or less, the festival is giving the city’s promising youngsters an opportunity to showcase their talent. The festival was all set for youngsters to channelise foot-tapping music and participate in popular events such as guitar contest, DJ war, salsa dance where youngsters got a platform to strike their chord and prove their skills in shaking a leg.

The salsa dance competition comprised two rounds with seven couples competing for the top credit. The contestants were evaluated for choreography, innovation, presentation, costumes and interpretation of music. “Unlike some dances, Salsa is not intimidating with its technicality. Although there are basic dance routines to follow, at the end of the day, Salsa is all about having fun and a good time,” felt Samdhamiti and Raman, one of the dancing couple. “Salsa is something for you to enjoy, it allows you to do almost anything - you just need to know the basic steps, which are relatively easy and follow the music,” feels Prithvi Raj, Director STEPS Dance Institute.

A stylish head turn, a sensual hip wave or a flirty wink usually does the trick. “Salsa is a ‘partner-dance’, and it is about making your partner look good, so you learn how to please your partner,” feel Kalyan Sagar and Hansika who stole the show and danced their way home with the first prize. Runners-up Archana and Uday loved to dance to their tunes and it didn’t matter to them who won or lost, as they cared only about dancing to the lovely music which brought them satisfaction. Dr. Madhuri, an exponent of Salsa and ballroom dancing along with Shravan, fashion designer-cum-choreographer evaluated the evening’s performances.
