Minting money
The prime motive of all corporate hospitals is profit-making. Patient care is only secondary. Often laboratory investigations called for are too many and not necessarily appropriate to a patient’s history. The norms for keeping a patient in intensive care unit are not strictly followed and patients have to shell out a lot of money. Surgeries are done in many cases which actually do not require an operation. There is no proper medical auditing system. Advance payments even for starting emergency treatment are insisted in all corporate hospitals. Even though in the private sector, some government control is necessary in these hospitals, so that they honestly serve the purpose of patient care.
