Late action

The Bypass Road (Palanganatham - Fatima College) is famous for accidents. Frequent fatal accidents occur here round-the-year and yet no effective step is taken by the authorities or traffic police. Road dividers and barricades appear and disappear while potholes are everywhere on the road. The National Highways Authority of India too is not taking any appropriate steps for maintenance. The Tirupparankundram Road (GST Road) covering Vasantha Nagar Bridge and Subramaniapuram Bridge (Madura College) is another accident-prone road. Recently, two girls died in an accident following which speed breakers and signals have been installed. Accidents can be averted by following safety rules. Accidents are created by our negligence and rash driving.

R.GOPALAKRISHNAN,
Madurai.
