The right strokes Monsoon make-up need not be dull
Monsoon mayhem can mean different things to different people but the most common superficial complaint is about getting the right look.
The monsoons can be every woman (or man’s nightmare) - streaky faces and frizzy hair and getting the look right is about making your hair behave, about keeping the mascara intact instead of having it streaking down your cheeks and simply keeping the make-up on.
With tips from the industry, monsoon magic may just become easier.
Look minimal
“Keep the look minimal” is what everybody seems to be screaming from the rooftops. Make-up artist Mickey Contractor is a firm believer in not having a look or rules for the season.
“There is nothing like monsoon make-up,” he says. But make sure you use as much waterproof products as possible.
“Waterproof mascara and waterproof foundation are must haves. Other than that, Mickey suggests that you play with colours and products that suit you instead of a trend that may not work for you.
Make-up artist Elton Fernandez who has assisted Cory Walia on various occasions says you should look fresh and natural. “Don’t rub your make-up if it starts running, just pat,” he says.
For cheeks, he suggests using a cheek stain, a type of liquid blusher that needs to be blended into the cheeks and stays on for a good amount of time.
Delhi-based make-up artists Yatin and Jojo also believe in laying emphasis on the minimal look. “Waterproof products will go a long way. Always use good quality products. It may seem like you’re paying too much, but your face will thank you for it.”
Waterproof make-up, like waterproof mascara for example, is a lot more cakey in texture as compared to water-resistant mascara and is useful if you know you will be caught in a downpour. But if you’re looking at something that will withstand a shower, water-resistant make-up will work just fine.
For the day and for those on the go, use natural looking colours without overplaying all your features. This way, if your make-up runs, there won’t be a stark contrast and it won’t look like something is missing from your face!
If you’re going to stay put in one place, let your imagination take over and indulge in colours that reflect the season. Blues and greens in pastels are options for those who want to wear colour cosmetics, but not over the top, garish colours.
Additionally, there’s one thing that Mickey believes is an absolute must; “Don’t forget your umbrella!” he says.
