Creative options Some of the options available at the showroom

There are tile shops and then there are tile shops. And then there are some shops that are not just tile/flooring shops. These are the kind of places where you do not get just tiles (besides a lot of other things) you get to explore and discover your creative side. Or, at least, these are the kind of tiles that let your creative side loose.

The recently opened Keramos showroom on the NH Bypass is not just another tile or flooring shop. Each tile, tiny piece of mosaic is a well crafted, well conceived work of art. The tiles that are available are the regular ceramic, porcelain and vitrified, but the designs are what take the cake in terms of creative aesthetics and style. Most of these tiles are imported from countries such as Spain, Italy, Brazil and China and then in house designers at the company’s headquarters in Delhi create myriad flooring, wall and even ceiling options.

Besides the huge variety available in terms of finishes – matte, glossy, rustic, antique, smooth, textured (to name some), colours, materials and budgets – the store is laid out in such a manner that the customer has no problem visualising how a particular design or a combination will look like.

To give the customer a better idea of what a particular combination of tiles would look like, some of the options for floors for the interiors and for the outdoors, gardens, driveways and swimming floors, have been laid out as the showroom floor.

There are two options available – mesh mounted and individual tiles as well. “Mesh mounted tiles are easier to lay in terms of the design. Another feature is that the borders, for instance, are interlocking. While laying tiles you reach a corner and the design needs ‘to turn’ there could be an abrupt break but with this technique we avoid it and the design stays unaffected,” says Subu Nair of the store. The flooring options are available in different colours, textures and looks. If you like red-oxide look of the old houses in Kerala you can find it there, if Mediterranean is your thing then you get that too and then if you prefer the look of the famed Jaipur blue pottery it’s here. Adding that touch of the exclusivity is the fact that these tiles are hand cut and in some instances hand painted too.

And if you like the pebbled or the cobbled look for your driveway, those too are available in mesh format and loose pebbles as well.

An interesting feature of the showroom and the concepts available there is that each room has been laid out giving the customer an idea of what a particular room would look like. The showroom is a house that has been converted for the commercial space.

So you have a kitchen, the wall and flooring options have hand painted tiles (with motifs relating to the kitchen) and also tiles embossed with motifs of fruits, utensils, and vegetables. Three to four bathroom options are laid out, and there are several other options available. Borders for floors and walls in Swarovski crystals, semi precious stones and glass borders are some of the other creative options are available, there are options for staircases too.

Kid’s room

If you want to create a look for your childrens’ room there are tile with board games such as snakes and ladder, ludo besides some others. There are several ceiling options as well. Motifs for the floor comprises designs of hand cut natural stones, the prices for each 4x 4 sq ft motif begins at Rs. 4, 000. The prices for mosaic starts at Rs. 200 per running square foot, and goes up to Rs. 600, while prices of floor tiles begin at Rs. 100.

And that is not all. If you want to create a look for your home or your commercial space you can create your own combinations for walls and floors. Be it for homes or commercial spaces Keramos has a solution.
