My Kind of Place

The waterfall.

Like every raga, every place has its own beauty. I would want to talk about all the places that have left a deep impression on me, but let me just relive a few unforgettable moments.

In 1981 while on a tour of the U.S. and Europe, I was bowled over by Basel’s (in Switzerland) beauty. And, how can I forget the Capri Islands in Italy. I will surely recommend Chappaqua, a lovely suburb in New York, to those visiting the U.S. It’s perfect for a short holiday.

Our country has enough for those who love people and places. My favourites are the Ghum monastery en route to Darjeeling.

Once there, forget your worldly worries; sit and contemplate. You feel quite the same at Dharmasala and Siddhbari. And if you want to get closer to the Himalayas, Kedarnath is the place to be. In 1978, when I performed at DD Srinagar, I realised why Kashmir is India’s crowning glory. Nature cannot be more generous. In Rajasthan, besides going around the awesome palaces and forts, shop. And, I love Mumbai’s never-say-die attitude.
