In many a colour

Cineraria changes colour but not its beauty

In full bloom The colourful Cineraria

An ideal decorative flower plant for your garden, Cineraria is a native of Canary Island, belonging to the family of Compositate. Cineraria is a pot plant grown for its impressive heads of daisy shaped flowers each of three inch wide. They vary in height and colour.

The most common floral pattern is a pastel shade of red, blue, mauve or purple, surrounding a typical daisy centre, but some are in single colour. Some variety of flowers have rings of other colours in the bloom.

The leaves are deep green, softly hairy, heart-shaped or triangular with toothed-edged with a tinge of purple.

Propagation of this plant is by seeds. It should be sowed in good potting mixture with compost and good drainage.

Cineraria is a favourite home plant useful for bedding, and window boxes as well. The plant should be watered sparingly as overdoing will lead to rotting. Guard against aphides and leaf miner. If one is interested to grow this plant indoor, keep it away from direct sunlight and keep it in cool environs.

To provide adequate humidity, which will help prolong the flowering period, stand them on trays of damp pebbles and keep the potting mixture thoroughly moist.
