Youth talent to the fore

The techno-cultural fiesta of SCMS School of Engineering and Technology begins today

It’s called IGNIZ 07, this techno cultural fiesta got up by the SCMS School of Engineering and Technology. This festival of young minds and talents begins today. Spread over three venues, students from all over the State and outside have come t o participate. The curtains are down on Saturday. Apart from the kudos, the winners will share prize money worth Rs 1.75 lakhs.

Three venues

The events take place at these three venues: SCMS main campus, Muttom, SSET campus, Karukutty, and Kalamassery Municipal Town Hall. Well, it’s not the humdrum song and dance competition that you had some years ago at the youth festivals. In professional colleges, contests are geared to suit the professional courses the students do. And this is computer yug, everything goes hi-tech. So you have a contest to find the best software coding, technical paper presentation, C.A.D design and micro processor programming. There are other off beat contests too, like ad film screening and the familiar ones, like westerm music band, solo singing, group dance, fusion music. There will be a quiz, and also a contest to find that ‘Best Manager’.

For the fashion show, which will be televised, participants will be judged on ‘construction, fit, modelling ability and compliance to the theme’, which is ‘Fire’. Deviation from the theme will cause points deduction, students have been warned. Sleepwear and swim suits are strict ‘No nos’, say the rules. Other garments that might be not be acceptable are those which do not have appropriate length, ‘cut or owing to sheerness’.

The fusion music contest will have students perform a mix of eastern and western music, both instrumental and vocal.

The Hindu-Education Plus is the official print media partner of the event. IGNIZ 07. ‘Yes Indiavision’ is the official channel partner. Federal Bank’s ‘Yuvamitra’, a scheme for youth, is sponsoring the event. Fast Track, KRL, Ultratech Cement,, Airtel Communications, Mobshare are other associate partners who are supporting the event.
