Tough job

Traffic around Meenakshi Temple is really a big problem and a difficult one to handle. This temple attracts tourists and devotees from all over the world in a large number. Increase in vehicular population on the narrow roads around the temple leads to traffic jam. Encroachment of footpaths leaves pedestrians with little option to walk around freely. The long pending demand of shifting the central vegetable market to another location needs to be expedited. Entry of lorries into the city should be banned during the day. Traffic around the Meenakshi Temple can be reduced only by collective efforts of officials of different departments, constant reviews and follow up actions periodically.

T.R. PRATAP CHANDRAN,

Madurai.
