Travel is one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy today. And the potential of the industry in India is just about being tapped. Opportunities are enormous for youth in this sector and to emphasise that Srinivas College of Hotel Management a
nd Vijayalakshmi Institute of Hospitality Sciences celebrated World Tourism Day.
It started with a state-level seminar on “Tourism Today — Opportunities and Challenges”, which highlighted the various types of tourism and how to effectively tackle the challenges posed by each. “The tourism sector is one of the fastest growing industries today.
The challenges, which the field faces encompasses all the functional areas of management.
Tourism today is so diverse that an entrepreneur can be easily enticed. The tourism club we have started creates awareness among our students,” said Vinay Raj, Principal, Srinivas College of Hotel Management.
There are different types of tourism including medical, rural, nature, spa, cinema, participative, cultural, wine and sports. These were illustrated with models at nine counters.
There was also a display which featured popular tourist destinations like Jog Falls, Nandi Hills, the statue of Gomateshwara, Gol Gumbaz , St. Mary’s Island, Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Temple, Belur Temple, Idukki Dam, Bekal Fort, Shabari Malay Temple, Athirampilly Waterfalls, Kanaga Kannu Palace, palaces of Bhutan, temples of Tamil Nadu, churches of Goa, and much more.
