Nature abounds

Playback singer Abhijeet is all for places untouched by commercialism

Singer Abhijeet

Cool breeze, cultural hub, coconut trees… no prizes for guessing…it is Kerala. It was for a show that I first went to Thiruvananthapuram. I was determined to go back and I did, the very next year. Luckily, I was advised to visit Coconut L agoon, where I went wow, wow… and wow! Kerala is one of those rare destinations where Nature abounds, but remains untouched by commercialisation.

Unlike other tourist spots which have been taken over by shops, plastic waste, towering hotels and milling crowds.

Believe me, I once travelled to Darjeeling but returned in disgust. So much crowd and filth there. Also, domestic tourism packages, though priced high, offer too little in terms of facilities.

So, when I plan a long family holiday, I go abroad, preferably to Europe.

The best way to enjoy Europe, if you have the time and the money, and are with the family, is by train. What a journey! What a view! I would suddenly break journey at various points. I would have no clue about the places, not even their names, but many of the small towns were breathtakingly beautiful.

You couldn’t do anything but halt. The highlights of the trip: Baden and its casinos, fresh pizzas and umpteen restaurants, Interlaken and its spectacular setting in the heart of the Alps, watching a thrilling soccer match in Madrid and going down music lane in Salzburg. Being a musician, I felt I had reached a musical summit in Salzburg.

I also had a great time shopping for musical instruments there.

Can’t imagine what would have happened if I had not got the bag I had left on the restaurant table in Venice back!

It not only contained the passports of my family but all the earnings from the 10 to 15 shows I had done there.

Bless the waiter for keeping it safe and returning it to me when I rushed there after an hour.
