Here is a roadmap that calls out the directions!
|
For those who are bad at remembering directions, driving can become a nightmare, frequently rolling down the window to ask the way, only to get conflicting instructions from passers by, spending time, energy and fuel for all the wrong reasons. Now, t
hanks to the latest technology, a handheld device based on Global Positioning System (GPS) technology.
GPS technology is no longer new, but what is significant about this device is that it has been designed for India and pinpoints your exact location anywhere in the country. When fitted to a vehicle, it provides you the shortest route to a selected destination. Just feed in your destination details and it will tell you through an inbuilt voice system which turn to take, where to turn right, and so on. Even if you take a wrong turn, it will immediately highlight the error and point out the correct direction.
The Navigator brought out by MapmyIndia connects to a GPS satellite in the sky through a GPS receiver fitted in it to pinpoint where you are and which way you are heading. It is equipped with a real-time turn-by-turn navigation with graphical map guidance supported by voice instructions. The destination address can be a locality, street name, point of interest or a remote village.
Safer driving
Says Rohan Verma, head of MapmyIndia.com, a division of CE Info Systems, “It makes driving safer as one does not need to stop the car and ask for directions in unknown or unsafe areas, and the best part is that it saves time and ensures a hassle free journey. It covers a map of all India and is very useful for the tourists to travel from any point to any point across India.” .
It might not work well inside a building or under any barrier in that it needs to maintain a connection through the satellites to function properly, admits Rohan, who is totally dedicated to popularising it in the market. As for updates on new roads or points of interests, he says more than 200 surveyors are on the field, constantly providing online updates. Rohan who has conceptualised and created mapmyIndia.com is a graduate from Stanford University in Electrical Engineering.
The device connects approximately 55,000 villages and town points, 150 cities containing important landmarks. And Delhi, NCR (New Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Greater Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad), Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Kolkata contains a complete set of streets, localities, sub-locations and landmarks. It navigates to the desired point of interest, using name or category (2,00,000 points of interest across 52 categories.)
